The Coast Guard Foundation has launched its Emergency and Disaster Relief Program to assist Coast Guard members and their families affected by Hurricane Beryl, Tropical Storm Debby, and glacial flooding in Juneau, Alaska.

“The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has already proven to be one of the most difficult in recent memory,” said the Coast Guard's nonprofit relief organization. Hurricane Beryl reached Texas, and shortly thereafter Debby moved through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

“Then, just last week, a glacier dam burst, triggering flooding that damaged more than 100 homes in Alaska,” the foundation noted.

In response, the Coast Guard Foundation, based in Stonington, Connecticut, activated its Emergency Assistance Program to provide immediate assistance to Coast Guard members directly affected. “The program provides financial grants to cover the cost of basic necessities, home repairs, replacement of household items, temporary housing and emergency travel, as well as insurance deductibles,” the foundation said.

Susan Ludwig, president of the Coast Guard Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the dedication and resilience of Coast Guard members during this difficult time.

“Our Coast Guard members are always there for us in times of disaster, often risking their own lives to protect others,” said Foundation President Susan Ludwig. She expressed her gratitude for the Coast Guard members' dedication and resilience.

“Now it's our turn to be there for them. The Coast Guard Foundation's Disaster Relief Program is designed to provide these heroes with the essential support they need to rebuild their lives after Hurricane Beryl, Tropical Storm Debby and other natural disasters.”

The Coast Guard Foundation invites individuals, businesses and community organizations to support service members in need by donating to the Coast Guard Foundation.

“Every contribution, big or small, makes a significant difference in the lives of those who have given so much to protect our country,” the group says.
