NORTH TEXAS – The hottest days of the year are headed to Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend, including a period of extreme heat. CBS News Texas weather advisories are in effect Friday through Tuesday — that's five consecutive days of warnings.

The high pressure ridge in the west will build further east over the next few days and will dry out North Texas even more from Sunday to Monday.

The heat dome will extend over the weekend and into next week, causing maximum temperatures to remain in the triple digits for an extended period.

By Wednesday evening, the ridge will shift westward, with North Texas on the eastern edge. This weakness will allow a surface front to move into North Texas late Tuesday night into Wednesday. With the forecast a little cooler, CBS News Texas meteorologists have lifted the weather advisory for Wednesday. Highs will fall to 38 degrees by Thursday, then reach over 35 degrees.

The European weather forecast model predicts isolated showers for the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, but the probability of this happening is not very high, so do not count on precipitation.

Heat warnings are in effect for North Texas on Friday as the heat is felt in full force. A heat warning is in effect for all of North Texas until 9 p.m. Starting at noon, an extreme heat warning is in effect for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and all pink counties.

Dangerous wind chill temperatures are forecast through the weekend, with temperatures reaching 45 degrees in some places. Spend as little time outdoors as possible and expect these warnings to continue into next week.
