Chelmsford, MA: Cleanup after severe storm damage – NBC Boston

Massachusetts residents were left to clean up severe storm damage and deal with fallen trees and debris on Friday.

A large tree fell on the back of the Philoon family's home on Porter Road – one of several homes damaged in Chelmsford on Thursday.

The tree stretched across the backyard after the top crashed through the kitchen, breaking windows and leaving shards of glass everywhere.

Aidan Philoon was at home with his brother while his parents vacationed on Cape Cod, leaving their children alone for the first time in 20 years.

On a stormy Thursday evening, trees were downed across Massachusetts.

Aiden said he was taking a nap when he heard a loud bang and felt the ground shake.

“The cats are coming down the hall screaming. I look out and see broken glass all over the kitchen and dining room. The tree is stuck in the roof. It's raining inside,” Aidan said.

“If we hadn't been on vacation, I would have been looking after the kids at home. Then I would have had a house full of kids, so I guess that's a blessing in disguise,” said Michelle Philoon.

The Philoon family said an inspector found structural damage. Without the inspector, the family will not be allowed back in.

They were told that the house could collapse because of the tree.

Porter Road has been pitch black since Friday morning. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency reports that at least 230 households in the city are without power.
