Jake Thistle “Better This Way (The Loser)” – Americana UK

Here is an excellent live performance of the new song “Better This Way (The Loser)” by Jake Thistle from New Jersey. Over a rhythmic, melodic strum, he delivers a superb vocal performance. His voice is smooth and melodic, and then as the song grows, there is a note of determination and passion as he repeats: “The coward runs, but the loser stays // He endures the pain, but the bruises fade // He keeps his pride. I'm the loser all the time // I like it better that way.” The words are uncompromising and come from the heart.

The accompanying video was shot at renowned rock photographer Danny Clinch's Transparent Gallery in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and the song is taken from the new live album “Live at the Transparent Clinch Gallery”. With twelve original songs and a cover of Don Henley's “The crux of the matter”The album was recorded at a sold-out show packed with fans in this intimate setting. Backed by guitarist Gordon Brown, the 20-year-old singer-songwriter is a commanding artist with stage presence, a captivating singing voice and, most importantly, an excellent set of songs. Thistle has been showcasing the new songs at a number of gigs throughout the summer. He says: “Performing live is such an important part of my life that I get to share a little bit of that experience on this record, especially in such an iconic and unique venue like Transparent Clinch Gallery. I'm so excited to take these songs on tour this summer!”

Thistle's debut studio single was named the best Americana song of 2022 by Boulevard Magazine. Recently, his song “Brooklyn Can Wait” was included in The Jersey Sound's top 50 New Jersey-related songs of all time alongside Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Frank Sinatra. Definitely a song to check out. Enjoy.

Hails from the North but now hiding out in rural Suffolk. An insomniac music lover. I love discovering new music to lose myself in – country, singer-songwriter, Americana, rock… whatever. At the moment I'm enjoying listening to Nils Lofgren, Ferris & Sylvester, Tommy Prine, Jarrod Dickenson, William Prince, Frank Turner, Our Man in the Field…
