Costa Rican fragrance and flavor manufacturer comes to East Texas

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Callizo Aromas has been creating many of the scents and flavors you know since the early 1990s.

The company has four main divisions that produce fragrances such as perfumes and flavors for a variety of snacks and beverages, as well as pet food products aimed at producing safer and higher quality food for pets. In addition, there are pet flavors that enhance the taste of food for your pets.

They have worked with many companies in America, but have not yet opened a factory in the region.

“This facility in Palestine will be Callizo Aromas' first facility in the United States. As the company grew and through their relationships with American companies in their supply chains, both upstream and downstream, they realized they needed an American presence,” said Christophe Trahan, director of economic development for the Palestine Economic Development Corporation.

This new location will provide over 50 full-time jobs, with positions requiring varying skill levels.

The landing in Palestine was no accident.

The city's location on I-45, which connects Dallas and Houston, makes distribution easy for Callizo, but in speaking with Trahan, we learned that's just one reason Palestine was chosen.

“It was really great to hear from the people at Callizo, and they said the deciding factor in their decision was the natural beauty of the area,” Trahan said.

Callizo offers a unique product that many other companies cannot provide to a community.

The city hopes that the company's uniqueness will contribute to the supporting event's greater appeal to the community.

“The concept of a place that creates the flavor you taste in a candy or the scent you smell in a soap is kind of like Willy Wonka. Something like that could happen in our own backyard…” Trahan said.

The site is scheduled to be operational before the end of this year. Once the initial phase of operations is complete, they hope to have Callizo Aromas fully operational by March of next year.
