Wheeling Athletics welcomes the remaining fall sports teams for move-in day

Wheeling, W.Va. – One week ago, the Wheeling University Athletic Department welcomed back the Wheeling football team on report day. On Friday, the rest of the fall sports programs will return to campus to prepare for the 2024-2025 season. Men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's rugby, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's cross country will all report and begin their training camps.

The 2023 fall season was another successful season for the Cardinals, with two teams reaching their respective conference tournaments, while volleyball and men's rugby each reached the national stage. In the MEC volleyball tournament, Wheeling volleyball won its 10th consecutive Mountain East Conference (MEC) championship, defeating West Virginia State 3-1. On the field, Wheeling Rugby won the inaugural Big Rivers Rugby Conference (BRRC) 15s championship. Both teams made it to their respective regional tournaments, with both's seasons unfortunately ending in the quarterfinals. The cross country and golf teams each competed in their MEC championship events, with Women's Gold having the best finish of 4th place overall.

The teams report on Friday and will each have a week of training camp before classes officially begin on Aug. 26. During the week, they will work to get the new players acclimated and prepare their systems for the 2024 season. Bishop Schmitt Field will serve as the practice site for men's and women's soccer and men's and women's rugby, as well as the Wheeling football team's continued preseason training. The Alma Grace McDonough Center will be where Wheeling volleyball will conduct its practices, while the final two practice sites will be off-campus. The golf teams will conduct their practice at the Wheeling Country Club and the cross country team will hold its annual weekend retreat to begin its fall camp. All athletes will report to the Alma Grace McDonough Center on Friday to begin the journey to the postseason.

Athletes will report to campus on Friday, August 16, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Training will begin next week.
