Black Ops 6 to rework CoD HQ and reduce download size

For Black Ops 6, Activision announced plans to streamline menus, reduce download sizes, and overhaul CoD HQ.

Modern Warfare 2 first introduced Call of Duty HQ in 2022, which serves as a central hub for the series. Players use a launcher menu and from there access multiplayer, Warzone, or other CoD titles.

The feature was intended to simplify menu navigation, but players argued that it made it more confusing than ever.

And frustration grew when players learned that the larger game files were due to the launcher taking up storage space.

Ahead of the launch of B06 on October 23, CoD HQ Activision listened to community feedback and provided a roadmap for the gradual overhaul of CoD HQ.

The highlight will be a new user interface in mid-October. CharlieIntel divided a preview of the new user interface in action.

Players no longer have to scroll through multiple vertical and horizontal menus, as the update consolidates everything into one simple landing page.

As seen in the preview video, players can choose between Zombies, Black Ops 6, or Warzone and quickly jump into a match. There will also be a section at the bottom with your most played game mode and other popular modes.

Activision defended this change by arguing: “This reduces the combined file size of multiple titles, enables faster switching between games for players playing different content, gives Call of Duty: Warzone a permanent home where it is not tied to a single annual title, and allows you to share settings and social features across games.”

It all starts with the Season 5 Reloaded update on August 21st. The extensive update starts the reorganization process and removes Warzone as a mandatory download.

Players who have installed Call of Duty and the Season 5.5 update will automatically receive the beta as an update to their existing installation.

And to compensate players for the high download, Activision is giving them double the number of XP tokens.

We'll get our first look at the new UI during the beta on August 30th.
