5 women will play every role in the off-Broadway revival of The Devil's Disciple

David Staller will direct the George Bernard Shaw classic for the Gingold Theatrical Group.

The Gingold Theatrical Group will stage a new production of George Bernard Shaw’s New Hampshire-set play The disciple of the devil. However, there is one special feature, according to the company: five female actresses will appear in the show.

Directed and adapted by artistic director David Staller, the play begins previews on October 15, with the official premiere taking place on November 3 at Theater Two on Off-Broadway's Theatre Row. The limited engagement runs through November 23.

Gingold presents this traditionally male-dominated story with a cast of five women playing all roles to better capture Shaw's consideration of the struggle for women's rights. Set during the American Revolution and featuring events from 1777, the adaptation emphasizes the need for individuals to take personal responsibility to keep democracy alive and well.

“Shaw’s plays continually challenge us to think critically and engage with the world around us. The Devil's Disciple is no exception,” Staller said in a statement. “As we approach a crucial election season, this piece serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of individual action and standing up for our beliefs.”

The production also features set design by Lindsay Genevieve Fuori, costumes by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Jamie Roderick, sound design by Julian Evans, prop design by Nicole Rozanski, and casting by Geoff Josselson.

April Ann Kline is the executive producer and David Vandervliet is the vice president of production. Aurora Productions is the production manager. Natalie Kane is the assistant director.
