The 236km race, which runs around the vibrant city of San Sebastian, is full of relentless climbs and takes in the notoriously twisty roads of the Basque Country. Tough climbs include classics such as Azkarate, Urraki and Jaizkibel, and there's a brand new climb at the end of the race. Coming just before a blistering descent to the finish line, the twokm 'Pilotegi' climb rises to 18% in its final 750m, which will most likely determine the outcome of this year.

Remco Evenepoel, winner of the last three editions, is skipping the race this year after winning double gold at the Olympic Games. The favourites to replace the Belgian on the winners' list are Slovenian Primoz Roglic, winner of the polka dot jersey from this year's Tour de France Richard Carapaz and Remco's loyal deputy Mikel Landa.
