Eagles want to use their regular players in a series against the Ravens in the season opener

The Eagles plan to use their regular players in a series at the season opener on Friday night against the Ravens, team sources said.

Depending on how the series turns out, they could play more, both offensively and defensively. There will also be some potential starters that could play more than others.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said he had not made a decision about playing time as of Wednesday. The regular players did not play in the preseason a year ago, but the Eagles had two joint practices with other teams.

They are only scheduled to train together with the Patriots on Tuesday in Foxborough.

The last time Sirianni sent his starters out on the field was two years ago in the season opener against the New York Jets. Quarterback Jalen Hurts led the offense to a touchdown, but was hit too late on an earlier run and ended up out of bounds.

The Eagles have prioritized health and haven't used their core players as often as other teams under Sirianni. He has said joint workouts provide enough simulation.

But the Eagles have two new coordinators who are implementing new strategies this season. Sirianni has also intensified the training sessions this camp.

The weather could play a role in whether the coach will actually use his starters. The weather forecast calls for thunderstorms and possibly tornadoes across the East Coast, including Baltimore.

However, the rain is expected to ease by the time the Eagles and Ravens games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
