SAN FRANCISCO – After a solid start to their six-game road trip, the Detroit Tigers are ready to close the deal in Golden State and prepare for a three-game weekend series against the San Francisco Giants.

After a truly awful home game, the Tigers were back on the road earlier this week. Against the Seattle Mariners, who lead the American League West, Detroit started strong, taking two of three games to win its first series in nearly three weeks. Solid pitching and timely hitting helped them win against one of the league's top teams.

They are still a long way from the playoffs. Entering the weekend, the Bengals are fourth in the AL Central, 13 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians and nine behind the Kansas City Royals, who secure the final wild card spot.

The Giants may be above .500, but they have a lot of work to do to earn a postseason berth. After winning three of four games against the Washington Nationals and winning four of their last five games, San Francisco is fourth in the National League West, eight games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers and three games behind the New York Mets in the final wild card spot.

The Tigers have a 17-17 record in interleague play this year, while the Giants have a 12-17 record against AL opponents.

Last year, Detroit was San Francisco's number one team and swept the Giants in a three-game home series in April.
