Save on school supplies during Texas Tax-Free Weekend

Whether we like it or not, it's that time of year in Texas when it's time to get kids ready to go back to school.

Back to school also includes back to school shopping. Parents have to buy school supplies, clothes, backpacks and shoes.

It is very expensive

Fortunately, Texas is one of those states that understands that it's expensive for parents to send kids back to school. It's even more expensive for families with multiple children. To help reduce the cost of back-to-school, Texas has a sales tax-free weekend each year before kids go back to school.

History of the sales tax-free weekend in Texas

The Texas Sales Tax-Free Weekend was first introduced in Texas in 1999. It came about after Senator Rodney Ellis proposed a sales tax break bill. He originally asked that the tax break last a full week instead of just three days and that items cost less than $100. Senate Bill 441 was signed into law by Governor George W. Bush in June 1999.
